Wall Tattoos – Interesting Ideas for Decorating with Wall Tattoos

By iZeko

For those of you who have never used or heard of this decoration trend, wall tattoos are self-adhesive stickers, made for applying directly to walls or other smooth surfaces without pastes or glues. Wall tattoos are also known as wall stickers, wall decals, wall appliqués or vinyl stickers.

The material usually used for wall tattoos is a thin vinyl film, which looks like painted or "tattooed" when applied to a wall. Wall tattoos consists of 3 layers: back paper layer, tattoo layer and transfer tape layer. They leave no residue on surfaces and are easy to apply. These decals can be peeled off, stored away, and reused. They are also wipe-able and last for years.

Wall tattoos are available in enormous variety of sizes, colors and designs (some stylish and some tacky). They are excellent for dorms and rental apartments where you can’t paint the walls. Wall decals are also a trendy, fast, easy and inexpensive way to personalize just about anything in your home.

Here are some interesting ideas on how to use wall tattoos.

Wall Tattoos on Furniture

Wall Tattoos on Furniture

Although called WALL tattoos, they can be used on furniture to freshen up their look. When combined with a little imagination, they can create very unique and interesting effects.

An ordinary dresser can be decorated with a Cherry Blossom decal that starts on the dresser and then continues up onto the wall. This immediately transforms it into an eye-catching piece of furniture. Similar effect can be created on wardrobes, with the decal starting on the furniture and continuing on the wall next to it.

Wall tattoos, especially tree designs, can also be successfully used to decorate shelves in nurseries or kids rooms and make them look more fun.

Wall Tattoos Instead of Furniture

Furniture-like wall tattoos are perfect for those rooms in the house that you just don't know what to do with. You can add a little bit of baroque style to an empty room that has just one bed in it, by sticking an elegant headboard decal over the bed and a chair or lamp sticker next to it. This will give the room the cozy feel of an old Parisian apartment and make it more interesting.

Using decals instead of headboards can also be a great money saver, not only because many headboards are expensive, but also because decals can be changed any time you want. Moreover, a personalized headboard can sometimes look much better than the ones you find in the stores.

Christmas Wall Tattoos

Sometimes people are forced to downsize from a house to a small apartment. Decorating a small space for Christmas can present multiple challenges, as the biggest one is the Christmas tree. In a small apartment it is not always possible to move or remove furniture to accommodate a real tree. But don't let this stop you from getting a Christmas tree, though.

Consider using a wall tattoo. A stylish, large Christmas Tree decal can make a room look elegant and festive. All you need is an empty wall (even behind the sofa), door or window. Simple tree decals can even be decorated with pretty ornaments, hung on tiny, sticky wall hooks.

When it comes to wall tattoos, not many people think of applying them to floors. However, applying a cheerful floral tattoo to a dull, unattractive floor can add character to the room. Decals with different designs can be placed as borders along walls, as unique, temporary carpets under tables, or around furniture.

Wall Tattoos Instead of Mirrors

Mirrors are great decorative accessories, especially for small spaces, because their reflective surfaces “bounce” light around the room, which makes the space feel larger and brighter.

Since large mirrors can be quite expensive, you can echo their reflective qualities by applying shiny, reflective decals on the walls. Although the reflections from this type of wall tattoos are not fully mirror-like in effect, they can still amplify the light in the room and make it feel much larger.

Wall tattoos installed on glass doors or windows can add unique accents and bring some color to a room. When the light filters through such windows or doors, it creates additional visual interest.

A stylish, colorful sticker on the window is also ideal to look at when the weather is grey outside. And because wall tattoos are temporary, they can be rearranged or changed with the season.

I have never heard of wall tatoos before, iZeko but it is certainly a great idea. I remember when I first moved to London, we were living in what amounted to a "large cupboard" and weren't allowed to do anything to it. It was horrendous and your Hub would certainly have proven useful then. Have no doubt it will be the perfect solution for a great many people! :)
